Mormons believe in God’s continuous pattern of revealing his will to his children. We don’t believe God ended his words or works in the Holy Bible, as that limits God to one time period. This belief alone brings up much discussion as some Christians falsely believe that John the Revelator meant that God will reveal nothing else to his children whatsoever when he said, “if any man shall take away from the words of the book of prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” - Revelations 22:19
Mormons believe in God’s continuing care, concern and work to bring about the salvation of His children, today. John was right in that we should not take away or add to his book of revelations or any other book in the bible, but we should leave it as it was when first written. Keep in mind, the books of Jude, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, and Titus were written after the book of Revelations. In fact, John himself wrote books after Revelations.
The bible has been handed down through many generations, and many conspiring misguided men have changed or taken from the Bible insomuch that although it contains much of God’s revealed truth to the world, many plain and precious parts have been removed, just as Nephi (a prophet from the ancient American Continent you can read of in the Book of Mormon) saw in vision – 1 Nephi 13:1-28, 2 Nephi 29:3-14
Mormons know that God speaks to his children around the world and never ceases to do so. God loves his children, and just like you and I desire to communicate with our loved ones, so does God, continuously.
With that brief introduction, God has given the world more of His words, not Joseph Smith’s or any other persons, but his very own words in today’s canon of scriptures:
- The Holy Bible
Containing the Old and New Testaments, written by the Jews, a record of the Jews which contains the covenants of the Lord, which he made unto the house of Israel, containing many of the prophecies of the holy prophets. Many plain and precious parts, as well as many covenants from God have been taken out of this book by evil and misguided men over the ages, perverting the right ways of the Lord, blinding the eyes and hardening the hearts of the children of men, creating confusion as to having “One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all…” (see Ephesians 4:5-6) We believe the Holy Bible to be the stick of Judah, spoken of by Ezekiel. (see Ezekiel 37:15-20 also see Articles of Faith #8)

- Old Testament Books, New Testament Books - The Book of Mormon (another testament of Jesus Christ)
An abridgment of the records of the people of the Americas from the year 600 BC to the year 421 AD, written to the Lamanites, Jews and Gentiles (see introduction). Written to convince Jews and Gentiles that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, and that he manifests himself to all nations, not just the nations of the Old and New Testaments contained in the Holy Bible. We know the Book of Mormon to be another true witness of Jesus Christ, given to the ancient inhabitants of the Americas, who came from the Old world. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the very stick of Joseph spoken of by Ezekiel. (see Ezekiel 37:15-20)

These four volumes of scriptures are what constitute the Lord’s revealed scriptures for our days. We know there are many more books (John 21:25) yet revealed by God, that will be revealed when we have accepted, studied, lived by, and understand his current revealed words.
